Hawthorn Sitting Room
June 7, 2016
Previously this room was painted with Renaissance inspired motifs in amongst an array of colonial paint colours. As in the rest of the house, we pared it back with a fresh coat of paint. Using lots of cushions, we cozied up the window seat; this has now become a favourite spot for my clients to sit and read in the winter sunshine. The room was quite narrow, so I recommended slipper chairs for the space; they are a great option when space is a little tight and are aesthetically very beautiful. For the same reason I specified a glass coffee table. A Wills and Sons Georgian sofa allowed for a classic look with minimal fuss. The William Yeoward console table supplied by Cromwells is from the same family as the centre table in the entrance hallway; this table is visible from inside the room, allowing for a sense of unity from one room to the next. The original centre light remains in the room at the request of the client, so I brought in the iron floor lamps from Cromwells to make it feel more at home.
